Welcome to the Eastern part of the island Hispaniola - the Dominican Republic!

Christopher Columbus discovered this Caribbean island with white sandy beaches surrounded by warm turquoise waters and year-round sunshine in 1492.
He said: "This island is the most beautiful that eyes have seen, full of good harbors and deep rivers, and the sea appeared as if it never rose"
With his brother he founded Santo Domingo in 1498, the first settlement with the first cathedral, hospital, customs house and university in the Americas in the New World. Built and laid out on a grid pattern it became the model for almost all town planners in the New World. Today this old part of the capital city of the Dominican Republic is called the "Colonial Zone" - a well visited hot-spot for tourists and it is also world heritage of UNESCO

The island Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic is big enough not to get the feeling that you are on an island and has a lot to offer...
